ReelSynth: Free Wavetable Synthesizer with Ableton Plugin

ReelSynth is a free wavetable software synthesizer with an Ableton plugin. You download it, design patches, and play them on a Live MIDI track. Open source under MIT, built in Rust. Import Vital .vitaltable banks, Serum-oriented wavetable content, and single-cycle WAV folders. After import, reshape the patch: filters and unison differ across engines. Save banks as .reelwt and patches as .reelpreset, and use reelpack/ bundles when you want a portable folder of content.

Open source and licensing

MIT covers the software. Making and selling music with ReelSynth is normal studio practice. Redistributing modified plugin code is a different question. MIT is more permissive for embedding than GPL engines such as Surge XT. Closed freeware usually hides the source; here you can audit and keep the code. Sound design habits that stick

Start every new patch from init. Sweep Position until you hear a useful frame, then narrow the macro range so one knob stays musical. Add filter motion second. Save early with a clear name. Duplicate the rack before unison experiments so you can return to the clean version.

In Live, prefer clip envelopes on macros for section changes. Keep internal FX light until the dry voice sits in the mix. Sidechain with Ableton Compressor when pads fight the kick. Send to shared returns for reverb so every ReelSynth track shares the same room.

Template placement

Add a muted MIDI track with ReelSynth already loaded to your default Live template. Name it RS_ready. When inspiration hits, unmute and play. Keep a second chain in an Instrument Rack with a darker filter preset for bass duty. One instrument, two starting points.

For shared templates, put the download URL in a text clip on the track. Collect All and Save still will not pack the plug-in binary; the README does the rest.
